An avid sportsman, Maxime Bernier played football in his teens and was a member of the Condors, the team of the Séminaire St-Georges, when they won the Bol d'Or at the Olympic Stadium in 1980. He has participated in several marathons and runs daily to keep fit.
In 1985, Maxime Bernier obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Université du Québec in Montréal, then began to study law at the University of Ottawa. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1990.
Following a long-standing interest in business, Maxime Bernier's professional career has taken him from positions in several financial and banking institutions, including the National Bank, the Securities Commission of Québec, and Standard Life of Canada, Executive Vice-President of the Montreal Economic Institute.
Many people of Beauce began to encourage him to take the plunge into politics meeting with Stephen Harper in the summer of 2005, Maxime Bernier agreed to take on this challenge and was elected Member of Parliament for Beauce on January 23, 2006, with the largest majority outside of Alberta. He was appointed to Cabinet on February 6, 2006, as minister of Industry. After he succeeded in deregulating major portions of the telecommunications sector, the chair of the Political Science department at McGill University, Professor Richard J. Schultz, wrote that 'In terms of what is perhaps the single most important component of his Industry portfolio, telecommunications, he was without challenge the best Industry Minister in thirty years.'
He became Minister of Foreign Affairs on August 14, 2007. Mr. Bernier resigned from his Minister's position, on May 26, 2008.
He has been reelected as Member of Parliament for Beauce, on October 14, 2008 with the largest majority in Quebec for the second time. In the election on May 2sd , 2011 he has been reelected. On May 18, 2011 he became Minister of State (Small business and Tourism).

He founded the Equity Derivatives group at RBC Capital, a division of Royal Bank of Canada Financial, then designed and deployed the first the first fully electronic securities trading and market-making platform in North America in 1989.
In 1992, he founded VERSUS Technologies Inc., one of the first fully electronic direct market access brokerage firms globally. In 1996 VERSUS licensed the rights to the E*TRADE service mark and technology for Canada, and commenced retail online trading for the firm in 1997. VERSUS went public in 1999, and was sold to E*TRADE Group in 2000.
In 2002 Doug started the first private equity fund in Canada dedicated to financial services infrastructure, and in 2005 reorganized the fund's four startup companies into a diversified operating company, Perimeter Financial. Perimeter designed, developed and operated transparent securities trading and reporting venues for institutional and retail clients. The firm was sold to CI Financial in April 2009.

Andrew Pigott is a specialist in private company sales, acquisitions and related ownership succession strategies. His experience within a multi-generation family business, combined with his extensive business valuation and deal closing record, enables him to provide practical, hands on assistance to business owners as they navigate the complexities of succession. Services entail advising on business valuation, and the processes entailed in buying and selling business ownership interests whether to family, management or to arm's length third parties.
Andrew is Principal of The Succession Bridge, and Managing Director of Kilbride Partners (www.kilbridepartners.com) which are advisory firms serving small and medium sized businesses in Ontario. He is a Director and Past President of the Canadian Association of Family Enterprise (GTA Chapter). He has completed the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators Program, and completed the Canadian Securities Course. He has an MBA (Finance) from Dalhousie University and BA (Econ) from the University of Western Ontario.
He is co-author of The Purchase & Sale of Privately Held Businesses, and editor of Selling Your Private Company, both published by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. He has been a contributor to the Daily Commercial News, the Ivey Business Quarterly and the Estates & Trusts Journal. He serves on the Investment Review Committee for K.J.
